To get started, I will begin with my own testimonial. In my youth, and even into my mid-twenties, I was an avid runner and sports enthusiast. I participated in virtually every organized sport available to me – baseball, basketball, skiing, track, golf, hockey and cross-country to name a few. Moreover, I enjoyed some reasonable success with my running. I was a state champion in the 3200m run in high school and attended college on a track and cross-country scholarship. In short, I was very lean and very fit, although it was due more to my frequent and vigorous physical activity than to any real commitment to – or understanding of – good eating.
After graduating from college, I entered the workaday world and my focus on fitness and exercise was gradually supplanted by a focus on my job and later my family. Because my diet was never exemplary to begin with, my decreasing attention to physical activity caused my weight to climb, slowly but steadily. At first blush, two or three pounds of weight gain per year doesn’t seem like much, but I managed to do that consistently every year for 15 years. One day I woke up with the realization that I was clearly overweight, I looked flabby and doughy, my once-impressive stamina was gone, I had a closet full of clothes that didn’t fit, and my self-esteem was suffering.
Like thousands of people do every day, I hit a wall and realized that I had to make a change in my life. I could no longer go on living a lifestyle that generated that body and tolerated that fitness level. In response, I became an avid and committed student of not just the impact of food on the human body, but also rediscovered exercise and became expert on framing the mental aspects of this challenging journey to greatly enhance my chances of success.
Since I created and began this program more than a year ago, I have seen my fitness level rise, my stamina increase, and my weight drop by more than 30 pounds. I am in better shape now than I was in my mid-twenties, and I just completed a 10k run in under 44 minutes. This program is proven to work and its concepts are sound.
